Egan in collaboration with Drop, revamp its e-commerce platform on Shopify, enhancing user experience for products with iconic licenses like Disney and Marvel.

The e-commerce landscape is constantly evolving, and for brands that manage complex catalogs or, as in this case, those rich in prestigious licenses, "replatforming" is not just a technological update, but a vital strategic necessity to create a solid and scalable foundation upon which to build a successful roadmap.

This is the case of egan.it, which recently, with us at Drop, completely renewed its digital infrastructure, moving to a platform that promises to improve user experience and operational efficiency.

A few words about Egan: it is a company in the Home Furnishings, Tableware, Gift Ideas, Favors, and Children's sectors, boasting prominent historical licenses. We are talking about iconic brands that enjoy global affection and immediate recognition: from Disney with its boundless narrative universe including Mickey Mouse, The Seven Dwarfs, Stitch, to the timeless characters of Marvel with Spider-Man and Hulk, up to the Warner Bros icons including Harry Potter and Tom & Jerry.

The chosen platform was Shopify, a choice that is anything but trivial in a technological scenario that has evolved greatly in recent years.

Davide Mancaniello, e-commerce manager at Egan:

"We are thrilled to announce that egan.it has a new look, a completely renewed website developed on the Shopify platform, with the aim of offering an optimized, mobile-first, and conversion-oriented browsing experience. This digital evolution is not just a restyling, but represents a strategic investment in which EGAN deeply believes. For years we have embraced the digital world with conviction, aware that the future of retail passes through an omnicanal customer experience and a strong, coherent, and distinctive online presence. The new site – managed by Drop – reflects the values of our brand: creativity and innovation, and allows us to communicate better with our customers and authentically tell the story of both iconic collections and new lines."

Brands increasingly want to feel free to directly manage and steer the evolutionary roadmaps of their e-commerce. They therefore require conceptually simple and agile platforms; possibly with "affordable" license fees. At the same time, they require an "enterprise" standing. This therefore seems like the classic "short blanket" (a situation where satisfying one need means neglecting another). In reality, Shopify, in this case, meets all the requirements very well.

At Drop, we have been Shopify Plus partners for several years and today we are among the leading players in the national market: this has allowed us a very short time to market with very high solution reliability.

The Hidden Complexity: Managing Giants

The replatforming of an e-commerce that deals with such important licenses presents unique and critical challenges that go far beyond simple page loading speed:

  1. Image and Brand Identity: Each licensor has rigorous guidelines on the use of logos, characters, and images. The new platform must ensure impeccable and dynamic management of assets to respect all visual requirements of brands like Mickey Mouse or Harry Potter, avoiding delays or errors that could compromise licensing agreements.
  2. Variety and Depth of Catalog: The platform must be able to manage thousands of SKUs (stock keeping units) that vary by character, collection, material, and availability. The new site is called upon to make this massive volume of products navigable and intuitive, allowing fans to quickly find their favorite character, whether it's Spider-Man or a Disney heroine.
  3. Technical Integration: Behind the scenes, the new infrastructure must integrate seamlessly with warehouse management systems (WMS), ERP systems, and, crucially, with the reporting systems required by licensors to track sales and calculate royalties.

A Structured Future for Growth

The transition to a modern platform, often headless or in any case based on flexible architectures, aims to relieve the e-commerce team of manual tasks and free up resources for strategy. A faster, more stable, and well-integrated site means:

  • Better SEO and Accessibility: Key elements for intercepting the specific demand of those looking for Disney mugs, Peanuts plates, or Warner Bros gadgets.
  • Improved User Experience: Simplified purchase paths and enhanced search are essential to convert the interest generated by the brands into sales.
  • Scalability: The ability to manage traffic peaks in conjunction with the launch of new collections or events related to the films and TV series of the licensed brands.

In conclusion, the replatforming of egan.it, managed by Drop, is not a simple restyling. It is the strengthening of the technological base necessary to support and leverage the value of the managed licenses, ensuring that products related to the world's most beloved brands are presented and sold with the efficiency and experience they deserve.
